Do you supply a pump?

Yes, we do! Pumps can be included as an add-on to your purchase for an additional fee.

How long will a 3.78L jug last me?

That entirely depends on the dose you are feeding. A 3.78L container will last 126 days for the average horse on or 30ml/day. A 3.78L container will last the average horse 63 days on a 60ml daily dose. Larger doses will mean your container lasts less time for you. Often horses can have their dose reduced once you achieve the results your after to a maintenance level.

Why does your label say don't feed this product to pregnant or lactating mares or horses with bleeding issues?

Smart Earth Camelina Oil is approved by Health Canada as an LRVP - a Low Risk Veterinary Supplement for horses and dogs. Health Canada has labeling guidelines for these products and we are required to comply, even though our camelina oil is considered a LOW RISK product.

Despite the fact that there is no evidence camelina oil creates harm or risk to lactating mares or horses with bleeding issues, because there are no long term, documented, studies to the contrary, these risk statements are mandatory.

Is there any clinical research showing that your product works?

There has not been any clinical research on horses fed camelina oil, to our knowledge. However, there are many articles on the health benefits of alpha-linolenic and other polyunsaturated fatty acids in both animals and humans. We do have a research summary of the apparent benefits of adding Long Chain Polyunsaturated Fatty Acids of the type found in Camelina to the diet of horses. We can send you this research sample on request.

I really want the other benefits your product offers but am concerned as I have seen it predominantly advertised as a weight gain supplement- Can I feed the product without adding weight? What would be your suggested dose?

You absolutely can feed Camelina oil without contributing to weight gain. We would suggest feeding your horse 30mls/day initially and increase/decrease the dosage based on your results.

I have miniature horses- is your product safe for miniature horses? What should the dose be?

Our product is absolutely safe for miniature horses. Because they are obviously a lot smaller than what our standard dose is meant to feed we suggest 15ml’s total per day. You can adjust your dosage as you see fit to get the results you are looking for.

Do you have tips on how to introduce the oil to a finicky horse?

We suggest using a very small amount of oil the first time and slowly increase the amount. Make sure it’s evenly dispersed across his feed. You could also try soaking it. If you have any problems with those methods let us know and we can offer some more suggestions.

Your label says for long-term storage the product needs to be kepts at 5 degrees C. How long is the oil stable at 20C?

The oil is fine to consume after 2 years at 20C (70F) if unopened and stored in the dark, but not as fresh as it could be. It depends on whether it has been exposed to air and light too. As a general rule we say our oil is fine after 1 year if opened and at room temperature not kept in the dark. The peroxide value is an indication of oxidation stability. Our oil must have a pv of less than 5 when freshly crushed. This value increases as it oxidizes. A pv of >20 is not recommended.

Can you feed camelina oil to cats and dogs?

Yes. Dogs love it! Dog dose: 5 mL (1 teaspoon) per 25 lb body weight) once daily. Cats - just a drizzle on their food.

Is it OK for human consumption?

Our non-GMO cold-pressed Camelina oil is Health Canada approved as a veterinary supplement for horses and for dogs. As a high omega oil it is processed in a food-grade facility and it has been sold to other buyers for human consumption. But we presently are not marketing it as such or selling it in the retail grocery store.
